Meats

Our Red Devon cattle are on organic pasture year around and are fed our organic grains. They are born on our farm and certified organic and do not receive antibiotics, hormones, vaccines, GMOs and (except for salt) are fed only products raised on our farm. Not only are they never deliberately exposed to synthetic chemicals, but neither is their feed.

Red Devon/Ruby Red cattle are supposedly one of the oldest breeds in existence. Their native home being near Devon, Britain, history records show the Romans noted the red cattle when they occupied the area in 55 B.C. They were brought to New England by the Pilgrims in 1623 (in subsequent trips, not the first Mayflower trip) and were a popular tri-purpose breed (work-milk-meat) in the American colonies in the 1700s. They were also a popular breed used as oxen to pull the wagons west on the Oregon Trail. The breed did not take part in the "feedlot madness" that happened in America after WWII and is still optimized for robust, rugged, healthy animals that naturally control diseases and parasites; making it easier to raise them organically on pasture alone and and not ever need a feedlot. Red Devons are recogmized for producing some of the finest beef off pasture alone.

We currently (Sept. 2023) have a herd of 22 Red Devons that graze on fields that have rotated out of grains. Typically on covers crops of clover or corn stalks. They are supplemented organic grains from our milling/grain cleaning operations when the forage quality is less than they need to maintain body condition. 

Our animals are pasture fed and grown on our land and fed products we grew (except for some organic approved minerals and salt.)

Meats are currently only available picked up as halves from the locker.

Most of the beef is spoken for until summer of 2027.  Call to confirm if you are interested.
